Want to see one of our shows but can't make it/we're never in your area/you can't get a babysitter/you can't be arsed? No problem, let us bring a show to your house! Paul has been performing house shows for well over ten years, mostly as a fun way to try out material in a friendly, informal environment ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe. This has since grown into a regular 'thing' - not just new material (although that's still the primary use for these shows), but polished shows, too.
With booking 'proper' theatre runs often a financial risk for us, performing house shows are a great risk-free chance for us to perform these fun little plays...in fact, there's often a time when we think we should only do house shows, you know, make it our thing, but we just love the Edinburgh Fringe too much. You get an intimate performance, in front of whoever you wish to invite over - friends, family, neighbours...it's a great social, a great chance to gather people together. The shows typically last 58 minutes, which is our standard for fringe shows. Unless you book The Many Cars of Paul Richards, that sometimes goes on for ages. That one is a house show exclusive, he wrote it purely because he wanted to get away from the time restraint of the fringe format, but boy does he go on a bit sometimes.
No audience too small, you don't have to have a big living room, whatever the space, we'll make it work. Also, it's affordable. It's technically free, although if you wanted to have a whip round afterwards, that's always appreciated, especially if we've had to travel a bit.Â
